When Should You See an ENT?

A quick guide to the most common questions we are asked before a first appointment at Mt Elizabeth.

When should I see an ENT doctor instead of a GP?
See an ENT specialist when symptoms have lasted longer than 4 weeks, when GP-prescribed medication is not working, when there is hearing loss or a persistent neck lump, or when the problem keeps coming back. Recurrent sinusitis, chronic blocked nose, persistent hoarseness, and any sudden hearing change should be assessed by an ENT specialist directly.
Do I need a referral to see Dr Pang at CENTAS?
No referral is required for private patients. You can call +65 6586 0988 or WhatsApp +65 9827 7186 to book directly. If you are using corporate or international insurance, your insurer may require a referral letter for reimbursement — our clinic team can guide you on what is needed before your visit.
How much does an ENT consultation cost in Singapore?
A first specialist consultation at CENTAS typically ranges from $150 to $250, with diagnostic procedures such as nasoendoscopy or hearing tests charged separately. Most procedures and surgical treatments are Medisave-claimable up to set limits. A clear cost estimate is provided before any procedure.
Are ENT procedures covered by Medisave or insurance?
Many ENT procedures including septoplasty, sinus surgery, tonsillectomy, grommet insertion, and thyroid surgery are Medisave-claimable. Most integrated shield plans cover specialist consultations and approved surgeries. Our clinic team verifies coverage and assists with claims at the time of consultation.
Which ENT symptoms should be treated as urgent?
Sudden hearing loss in one ear, sudden severe vertigo, a rapidly growing or hard neck lump, hoarseness lasting more than two weeks, blood-stained nasal discharge from one side, and noisy breathing in a child should all be reviewed within days, not weeks. Sudden hearing loss in particular is a medical emergency — outcomes are best when treated within 72 hours of onset.
